History of the

Airway Heights Police Department

In 1953, Land developer Carl Lundstrom, president of Rocket Investment Company, announces to incorporate 1 square mile of West Plains into the Town of Airway Heights.  The area has about 400 residents, a service station, cafe, furniture store, barber shop and a lumber yard.

On April 19, 1955 residents vote 50 - 8 to incorporate.  Lundstrom, running unopposed is elected first mayor.

September 24, 1956 city council approves the position of Town Marshal.  L.A. "Red" George is appointed to the position, becoming the first law enforcement officer in Airway Heights.  Marshal George is paid $50 a month.
