School Resource Officer Program

The Airway Heights Police Department is in the process of developing a School Resource Officer (SRO) Program with Sunset Elementary.  The police department feels that a police presence in our schools is important, and that educating our community's youth on safety issues is a high priority.

We will be naming who the SRO will be once the program is implemented.

The program will focus on educating various grade levels on age appropriate information. Topics range from stranger danger, bicycle safety, peer pressure issues, school bus safety, playing safe outdoors, bullying, and many others.

Curriculum taught will be approved by the Cheney School District.  Classrooms and grade levels will be chosen by school administrators.

The police department was able to obtain a vehicle for the SRO through local donations.  A 1996 Ford Explorer was purchased, and has been outfitted with all emergency response equipment.  We appreciate the support we received from our local businesses.  The vehicle will also be available to our patrol officers for use in inclement weather conditions.
